  1. It was so bad. Every tune sounded like a polka. Where do I begin... The symphony sounded very nice in the first medley until the sound reinforcement took over the natural sound. It sounded unnatural. You couldn't hear the symphony for the sound system. The piano was completely drowned out in Rhapsody in Blue in which by the way, the piano plays a pretty important part. Why repeat But Not For Me three times in the evening? The blonde vocalist was a Julie Andrews knock off and the other female vocalist (Lari something or other?) had an annoying habit of singing notes flat then raising to pitch sometimes. I mean sometimes she raised to pitch. I had to hang my head when she sang the "O" in the outro of Someone to Watch Over Me. Major Clam! Why was there some psychedelic screen saver during the songs? Film was great to see but why the awful backdrop? Cuban Overture was so poorly done. The bongo player had absolutely no rhythm which would not have been so obvious except for the sound mix had the percussion louder than the strings or horns. The pianist was very good but took liberties with the timing in Rhapsody in Blue, a wonderful piece of music turned into polka or marching band music by the conductor. Where did that arrangement of Summertime come from because it wasn't Gershwin! Why would they play such a famous and easily recognized song without the Gershwin arrangement? Where were the beautiful chords that end this song? Gone. Who rewrites Gershwin? The audience response was appropriately subdued. Applause stopped even before the vocalists left the stage. Appropriate the concert was at Lipscomb because the performance was barely college (small) level. The bottom line is that this was a very poor performance.
